Betty Lou Steffy Waldinger Johnson
“Grandma Betty”
Betty Lou Steffy Waldinger Johnson, age 78, of Millcreek Twp., passed away in the loving arms of God on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at LECOM Sr. Living. She was born on April 27, 1942 in DuBois, PA, the daughter of the late Harold M. and Harriet Thomas Steffy.
Betty moved to Erie in 1953 and graduated from Strong Vincent H.S. in 1960. After high school, Betty worked in the office of Sanida Dairy until the birth of her first son in 1966. She was a volunteer for many years at Cascade UM Church and the United Methodist Alliance; serving as recording secretary on the board.
In the late 90’s, Betty became the secretary for Simpson UM Church. In 2001 she became the Certification Specialist at Richford Arms, retiring in 2005.
For over 20 years, many people enjoyed the decorated cakes from her kitchen. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, helped cook dinners at Cascade UMC which was her home church since 1953.
She was also a member of its Drama Team, Clown Ministry, and Prayer Shawl Ministry; which she was a founding member.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Arnold Waldinger, her second husband Bill Johnson; whom she married on March 10, 2006, and one granddaughter Jessica.
Betty is survived by her children: Arnold, Michael, Mark (Allison), her grandchildren; Jemma, Christopher, and AJ, step-children; Debbie Osborne (Ken), Eric, Lane, and John.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Matthew (Mindy), Beth, Cameron, Victoria, and Melody.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 1:00 P.M. until time of service there at 3:00 P.M.
Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
