Mary Lorraine Hannon Trampenau
Mary Lorraine Hannon Trampenau, age 99, of Sarah A. Reed Senior Living, Erie, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021.
“Rainey” was born in Oil City, PA on June 12, 1922, the daughter of Edward Hannon and Mary Driscoll Hannon. Rainey was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 75 years, Howard Trampenau, a son Richard Trampenau, three sisters; Elizabeth Tucker, Marian Mong, Lois Hannon, one brother Robert Hannon, and a daughter-in-law Susan Groh Trampenau.
Rainey grew up during the Great Depression and the hardscrabble life of that time. She shinned through and made her way from Oil City to Erie and in 1940 she graduated from Strong Vincent H.S. with honors and gave a commencement speech. In 1943 during the height of WWII Lorraine married and started a family and in time settled in Elmira, NY for 43 years. After her children grew some, she worked part time for many years at Iszards Dept. Store in Elmira and then eventually returning to Erie for the last 20 years. During retirement Rainey and her husband Howie enjoyed travelling to see family from NC, FL, CO, and CA stopping at interesting points between. Rainey could have been a pioneer woman as she enjoyed canning, sewing, quilting, and crocheting. Most of all she was happiest surrounded by family.
Lorraine is survived by sons; Robert E. Trampenau (Andrea) Santa Barbara, CA and Timothy G. Trampenau McKean, PA, daughter-in-law Annette Trampenau, sisters-in-law Vera Barna and Jean O’Camb as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
