Richard R. DiPlacido
Richard R. DiPlacido, age 74, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, after six years of gradually slipping away from Alzheimer’s Disease. Rich was born in Erie on May 9, 1947, the son of the late Rocco and Julia Trolli DiPlacido. He attended Saint Andrew School, Cathedral Preparatory School ’65, Gannon University ’69, with a Masters degree from Edinboro University in ’73.
Rich was an outstanding English teacher and an award-winning golfer. He molded young minds at Seneca H.S. for over 30 years. He taught summer golf at the YMCA, and golf and cross-country at Seneca, where he took the team to States multiple times.
As a senior on the Prep golf team, he was first man, elected to first team “All City Champs” the year Prep won the city championship in ’65. His golf career included the 1982 club championship at Peek’n Peak, and three holes in one!
Rich was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Harborcreek, serving as Deputy Grand Knight, fourth degree.
In his retirement, Rich enjoyed 11 years together with Lynn as snowbirds in Saint Augustine, FL. With a great group of traveling friends, they had the pleasure of seeing many parts of the world. Most meaningful were two trips to Italy where he and Lynn spent time with his paternal family.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Ken Fanazini and John DiPlacido.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Lynn Nietupski DiPlacido, who will forever cherish “her Richie”, their children; Andrea DiPlacido Denning (Daniel) of Jacksonville, FL, Anthony DiPlacido of Erie, four grandchildren: Ashlan and Aila Denning his “southern dolls”, and his “northern dolls” Rose and Ella DiPlacido, and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to his best friend since childhood, Phil Daugherty, with whom he shared a birthday and countless adventures. Special thanks also to the outstanding and compassionate staff of the Gallagher Unit at the Nightingale, where Rich spent his final three months in their loving care,
