Charles W. Freeman
Charles W. Freeman, age 82, of Erie, PA, formerly of Scottdale, PA, passed away following a lengthy illness on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Erie VA Medical Center. He was born in Scottdale, PA on November 8, 1928, the son of the late George P. and Florence R. Lemmon Freeman.
Charles was a graduate of Scottdale High School with the class of 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a Control Tower Operator. He took classes with the American Institute of Banking and worked for over 30 years in banking, including the First National Bank of Scottdale, Gallatin, Integra, and National City Bank.
He was a 53-year member of the Marion Lodge No. 562, F. & A.M. in Scottdale. He was a charter and former member of Scottdale Kiwanis Club where he had served as both Treasurer and President. He was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale. His favorite hobby was Trap Shooting and was a former member of Ruffsdale Gun Club. Charles also spent many years model railroading and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
Besides his parents, his sister Florence L. Freeman Light preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda A. Weaver Freeman, of Erie, PA, a daughter, Amy A. Freeman Pier and her husband Clifford B. and two grandchildren, Bradley F. and Rachel N. Pier, of Waterford, PA, a niece, Nancy Light (Joseph) Yafchak, and a nephew, John (Cathy) Light and family. Funeral services will be conducted in Scottdale, PA. under the direction of the Ferguson Funeral Home. Local arrangements were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
The family suggest memorials be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 201 Market St., Scottdale, PA or the charity of your choice.
