Obituary of Lottie Marie Yopek
Please share a memory of Lottie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lottie Marie Yopek, 89 years of age, passed in to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 3, 2022, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in passing by her beloved son, Edward; her parents, Isaac and Lillian Carnahan; brothers Charles, Lawrence, and Stuart, and her sisters, Ruth, Jane, Dorothy and Faye.
She is survived by her daughters, Christine Minor of Pittsburgh, Barbara Breeden of Florida, Patricia Yopek and Marcia Staudt (John) of Erie; grandchildren Kimberly, Colleen, Josephine, and Michael Staudt; dear friend Thekla Bentzel of Pittsburgh, and many nieces and nephews.
Lottie readily shared her warmth, love and delightful sense of humor with everyone who crossed her path. Her children and family were the most important and treasured parts of her life, but what was so very special about her was that she made friends and acquaintances feel as though they were also a part of her family.
Lottie loved 70’s and classical music, and would listen for hours to the compositions of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart. She possessed an extraordinary connection to all of God’s creation, especially His flowers and animals. She loved horses, cats, and dogs and could often be heard talking to the squirrels, deer, groundhogs and birds that would appear around the grounds of her home. She appreciated the simple things in life, and it was a joy to watch her interact with the people and the creation that she held so dear to her heart.
She enjoyed her sweets - especially chocolate - and there wasn’t a day that would go by without her asking for some kind of a treat to enjoy as a snack, or as dessert after a meal. She used to bake goods from scratch, and would happily share her scrumptious pies, caramel rolls, and nut twists with anyone who entered her home. Always the gracious hostess, she welcomed one and all. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and true crime stories, and had been a formidable opponent on the bocce court at St. George Parish.
We wish to give special recognition to Pinnacle Hospice of Pittsburgh for the care they provided Lottie over the course of the last nine months. The love, compassion and personal attention that they extended to her while she was in their charge was unparalleled. We will forever be grateful for the guidance and support we received from Amy, Lottie’s RN, Eileen, her LPN, and Denise, her CNA.
We also want to give heartfelt appreciation to Lottie’s beloved daytime companion and caregiver, Natasha, from Moravia Health; Michelle, from Debbie’s Angels; and our dear friends Karen and Mary, who were there for us throughout. We are so blessed to have all of these wonderful people in our lives.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday June 8, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and are invited to a prayer service there on Thursday morning at 9:15 AM, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. George Roman Catholic Church 5145 Peach St. Interment will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
