Charles "Chuck" L. Garnon
Charles "Chuck" L. Garnon, 90, Born: August 11, 1921 passed away peacefully of natural causes January 5, 2012 in his residence at St. Mary's Home of Erie, Asbury. Son of the late William J. Garnon and Sarah P. Boyer Garnon of Akron, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Wanda R. Hale Garnon, brothers Harold Garnon and Frederick W. Garnon, sisters Grace Garnon, Mary Jane Garnon, in their infancy, and Florence I. Crumrine.
Survived by three loving children: Judy A. Garnon Lange, daughter, and her husband Gregory Lange, Livermore, CA, Janice K. Mitchell, daughter, and her husband Paul R. Mitchell, Lockport, IL., James H. Garnon, son, and his wife Deborah A. Garnon, Girard, Penna., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also survived by a brother John B. Garnon and his wife Shirley Garnon of Columbus, Ohio.
Was a Truck Equipment Distributor for over 50 years and Mobility Vehicle Dealer over 30 years. Owner & founder of Garnon Truck Equipment. Served as Ford Motor Co. Heavy Duty Truck Dealer for several years and was a past chairman of PA Truck Dealers Association.
Served in the U.S. Coast Guard, WW II, and U.S. Navy Wing Staff 65, Korean Conflict.
Active in Boy Scouts of America for over 65 plus years, served as Washington Trail Council Commissioner, and was presented BSA Silver Beaver recognition award.
Member of Zem Zem Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Erie, Penna. Served as Zem Zem Zailors 1983 Commodore. Fifty-five years plus member of Victory Lodge #649 Grand Lodge of F. A. & M. of Akron, Ohio and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge of Canton, Ohio. Past member of Erie Rotary Club (18 years) and Past President of Presque Isle Rotary Club where he was instrumental in the planning and construction of the Presque Isle Rotary Pavilion on Presque Isle. Active in developing early N.W. Penna. Duck's Unlimited and served as Western Penna. D.U. Sponsor Chairman. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
He loved fly fishing, fly tying, rod crafting, woodworking, and photography. Active in N.W. Penna. Trout Unlimited development program. Past member of Kahkwa Club, Aviation Country Club, and Erie Yacht Club.
Even though Chuck's body finally gave out he did retain the wit and charm he was so well known for to the very end. Erie has lost a fine gentleman with his passing.
Friends may attend Memorial Service at Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Saturday, January 21st from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 3:00 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Michelle Wobrak. Private Interment.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505, to the Alzheimer's Association Greater PA Chapter, 1128 State Street, Erie, PA 16501 in memory of his wife, or to one's choice.
