Geraldine Rose Cooke Wollschleger
Our mother, Geraldine “Gerry” R. Cooke Wollschleger, age 99, of Millcreek Twp., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 3, 2022. She was born in Rochester, NY on February 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Thornton and Rose Goodman Cooke.
During WWII, Gerry worked on the Manhattan Project which hastened the end of the war. She married her husband, Raymond in 1943 prior to his deployment to France. After the war, Gerry and her family moved to Cleveland, OH where they lived until moving to Erie, PA in the early 1970’s.
Gerry and her husband owned Mason Memorial Studios until it closed in 1985.
Gerry sang with the Sweet Adelines and performed in competitions throughout the US. She loved to read as a hobby and could be found surrounded by multiple library books. She particularly loved walking the paths of Presque Isle. Her family was the most important aspect of her life. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren
She was a member of St. Julia R.C. Church.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, one sister Gertrude Wollschleger, and one brother Sonny Cooke.
She is survived by three sons; Raymond, Jr. (Diane) of Columbus, OH, David (Ann) of Millcreek, Keith of Millcreek, four grandchildren: Scott, David, Jr., Amy, Robin, eight great-grandchildren: Kellie (Chris), Sophie, Jake, Delaney, Gionna, Gavin, Brayden, Kylie, and one great great-grandson Liam.
Private services were held by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd, with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.
