Obituary of Martha Helen Kockritz

Helen Kockritz age 98, previously of Millcreek Township, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday September 25, 2022 at Sarah Reed Senior Living Center, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was the daughter of Pickett and Lillie Harris. She grew up in Tifton Georgia and moved to Birmingham where she met her late husband Hank, whom she married in 1948. Helen was involved in the Good News Bible Clubs while living in Ohio. After moving to Erie, she volunteered with Pioneer Girls and also taught Sunday School. She was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church, and worked as a church secretary for several years. Her Christian faith was an integral part of her life and she cherished her family. She is survived by her children Janis (David) Smith of Alexandria VA, Linda (Jeffrey) Swanson of Erie, and Donald Kockritz of Erie. Grandchildren include Nicholas Smith, Martin Smith, and Alexis Kozyk, along with great grandchildren Maxwell, Lucas, and Mackenzie. A private graveside service was held for the family in Laurel Hill Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Davis officiating. Memorials may be made to Bethel Christian School in care of Bethel Baptist Church 1781 W 38th St. Erie, PA 16508.
