Gordon "Gordy" Jay Gebhardt
Gordon "Gordy" J. Gebhardt, age 83, of Millcreek Twp., died after a brief and aggressive illness on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at UPMC-Hamot. He was born in Erie on June 15, 1928, the son of the late, Clyde W. and Ruth Anna Wiberg Gebhardt.
He was employed as Vice President at United Oil Mfg. Co., Vice President of the family owned business, Erie-United Refining Co., Warren, PA, and VP of United-Erie, Inc. He was a long time attendee of First Alliance Church and the Bible Ambassadors Church. Gordy was past President of the Erie Rotary Club, Past Chairman of the Salvation Army Temple Corp, past President of the Erie City Mission, past Chairman of the American Foundry Association of NWPA, past President of the American Lung Association, past President of the PA Lung Association, member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club, EMTA board member, UPMC-Hamot Incorporator, past board member of ECHS, past board member of the International Institute, past President of the Marriage Counseling Service, member of Presque Isle Antique Automobile Club of America, a Board member of GEYSO, and a member of the Keystone Model "A" Club. Gordy enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, traveling and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Curtze Gebhardt in 2011. He is survived by his second wife, Meta C. Gebhardt, two sons; Gregory J. Gebhardt (Sue) of Houston, TX, Scott C. Gebhardt (Jamie), of Harrisburg, PA, one daughter Margaret E. Heffer (Rev. Timothy), of Tumwater, WA, his grandchildren: Michele Kemper, Laura Beth Allen, Gareth J. Gebhardt, Holly Gebhardt, Cody Heffer, Paige Heffer, one great-grandson, Gregory Josiah Kemper, and one brother, Richard C. Gebhardt (Joan) of Erie.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. co-conducted by the Revs. Dan Porath and Tim Hoffer. Private interment Erie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace School of the Bible, PO Box 94, Bloomingdale, IL 60108, Salvation Army, Erie Temple Corp., 1022 Liberty St., Erie, PA 16502, or to the Bible Ambassadors, 2820 West 23rd Street, Erie, PA 16506.
