Obituary of Alice Gertrude Ristau

Alice Gertrude Ristau, age 96, formerly of Millcreek, passed away on Wednesday November 30, 2022 at Manchester Commons Nursing Home. Alice was born on January 13, 1926 in Cleveland, OH, daughter of the late Howard and Esther (Kurth) Payne. She married Willard C. Ristau on September 20, 1947, started her family in Willowick, OH and moved to Erie in 1960. Alice worked at Halle Brothers Department Store in downtown Erie and the Millcreek Mall for many years. She was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She lovingly and selflessly cared for her family. Alice enjoyed sewing, cooking, care for her gardens and caring for many family pets over the years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard (Bill) Ristau; children, Richard C. Ristau and Susan C. Lewis; grandson, David C. Ristau Jr. and a sister, Shirley Kroeger. Alice is survived by three children, David (Mary) Ristau Sr., Paul (Rachel) Ristau and Katie (Chris) Conti; eight grandchildren, Eric, Robin, Jeff, Mary, Julie, Steven, Brian and Tim; nine great-grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces. The family would like to thank the staff of Manchester Commons for their loving care and support. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family with Christian interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
