Obituary of Avis L. Lucas

Avis L. Lucas Avis L. Lucas, age 77, of Erie, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at UPMC-Hamot. She was born on August 29, 1945 in Miami, FL, the daughter of the late Leonard G. and Jeanne L. Baker Lucas. She was a RN and had been employed at Doctors Hospital, Pleasant Ridge Manor, and the VA Medical Center where she retired from. She belonged to St. George R.C. Church. Avis loved her dog, Charlie, gardening (especially roses), camping, fishing, traveling, watching birds, finding joy in small things, cooking and baking, she loved nursing, enjoyed home improvement, and working on cars in her younger days, and spending time with family especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It seemed she was filled with knowledge on just about anything and was very compassionate. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Stephen A. Lucas, one brother, Leonard G. Lucas II, and one son-in-law, Donald B. Thomas She is survived by one daughter Karyn Thomas, three sisters; Carol Feasler, Rose Dahlkemper, Debbie Slovich (Jim), one brother Mike Lucas, her grandchildren: Izaac Thomas, Jordan Lucas, Abigail States (Stephen), Donald A. Thomas (Rylie Soboski), great grandchildren: Wyatt, Carson, Avianna, Spencer, and Baby Girl States, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 4 pm until the Funeral Service at 6 pm. Private interment at Wintergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
