Obituary of Katie Elizabeth Camino
Please share a memory of Katie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Katie Elizabeth Camino, age 39, of Erie, PA, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at home on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Born in Erie, PA, on March 31, 1983, she was the beloved youngest child of Dennis and Peggy (McCooey) Camino. A lifelong resident of Erie, Katie graduated from Villa Maria Academy in 2001 and continued her education at Great Lakes Institute of Technology where she earned certifications from both the massage therapy and dental assistant programs.
Katie was one of a kind just like the beach glass she loved to collect. She enjoyed wading through the shallow waters at both Presque Isle and the Walnut Creek Access Area. Those who knew Katie best know she was someone you could call for help at any hour, no matter what. Katie’s love of life made every moment spent with her one to remember with her radiant smile and her true heart of gold. Through laughter or tears, Katie’s presence always made any time spent with her unforgettable.
The fierce love and loyalty she felt for her family and friends was unrivaled--especially when it came to her parents--they were the most important people to her in the world.
One thing Katie cherished most was camping, especially at the McCooey family’s summer home in Crown, PA. Katie loved spending time outdoors, and she found peace and comfort surrounded by her family and friends at such a unique and special place. Whether she was sitting around the campfire swapping stories with her family about growing up, or hiking through the woods with her nephew, Katie’s love of the outdoors demonstrated just how much she genuinely appreciated all of the beauty in this world.
They say that people who can truly appreciate the uniqueness of beach glass understand that life is a beautiful adventure. Without a doubt, Katie’s journey has left a permanent imprint on the hearts of all of those she met along her way.
Katie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Daniel and Cecelia (Sally) Camino; maternal grandparents, Henry and Mary Kaye McCooey; uncle, Daniel Camino; cousin, Matthew Gnacinski; and best friend, Lindsay Moore.
In addition to her parents, Katie is survived by her brother, Michael Camino of Erie; sister, Carrie (Camino) Hamilton; brother-in-law, Jason Hamilton; niece, Isabella Hamilton; and nephew and Godson, Connor Hamilton, all of Breinigsville, PA. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends are also left to cherish her memory.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Dusckas Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Road, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and may attend a funeral mass at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street, on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be designated to the family through the funeral home.
