Raymond "Mike" Gibbs
Raymond "Mike" Gibbs, age 83, passed away on October 9, 2007 at his home in Dunnellon, FL. He was born in Erie, PA in June 1924.
He retired from Lyons Transportation in 1976 after more than 30 years and was a long standing active union member of the Teamsters Local 397. He was a member of the Lyons Antique Truck Club and the Star Club for many years. Since retirement he and his wife divided their time between Erie and Dunnellon, FL before moving to FL in 2004. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; his family was his life. His favorite vacation was to Las Vegas, NV.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Annabelle Muehl Gibbs, three daughters: Judith (Michael) Bendzuch of Tucson, AZ, Donna (Harold) Herman of Erie, Mary Lou Gibbs of Dunnellon, FL, and three sons all of Erie: Ray (Melody), Ron (Kim), and Brian (Sheri) Gibbs. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Michael, Jeffrey, Steven and Matthew Gibbs, Carol Leemhuis, Jeffrey Herman, Natalie Gallagher, Jennifer Moses, Todd, Douglas, and Jay Eckard and 15 great-grandchildren. Also, he leaves two sisters, Marian Schiavone and Joyce Oaks of Erie, a half brother David (Mary) Deck and a half sister Alberta (William) Grindstaff. His father, George, who was killed in a truck/train collision in 1938, preceded him in death. His mother, Alice Ames Gibbs Deck died in 1985 and his brother, Richard, died in 2004.
Friends may call at the Dusckas - Martin Funeral Home, Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for the funeral service. Entombment Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home or to the Erie Regional Cancer Center, 2500 West 12th. St. Erie, PA 16505.
