James Allen Cripe, passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife by his side on Tuesday March 28, 2023. Jim was born in Plymouth, Indiana on July 14, 1940, the son of the late Cleo and Evelyn (Stone) Cripe. He graduated from Plymouth High School and Purdue University as a mechanical engineer. After many years, Jim retired from GE to enter the real-estate industry, where he owned and managed apartment buildings and Mobile Home parks. He helped found the Apartment Association of Erie. James loved the outdoors as a young child hunting squirrel and fishing in Plymouth. He became an avid fisherman and waterfowl hunter and traveled to Canada, Alaska and Idaho to enjoy the sport. In Spokane, Washington he became the president and CEO of OUTLAW DECOYs, which sold his photographic silhouette decoys and duck hunting boats. He also published a monthly magazine for the company. After many years he returned to Erie to manage his Mobile Home Park. He happily purchased land with a home on Walnut Creek where he could observe the deer and other creatures of the woods. He was a member of Elevate Church. He truly enjoyed the friends he made within his small group. Jim was preceded in death by his sister Donna Frier and son Timothy Cripe. He is survived by his wife, Adele, who he married on August 15, 1998; stepson Judd Carey, wife Zella, grandchildren, Landon and Selles Carey, a son, Jeffery Cripe of Coeur d’Alene, ID; grandchildren, Halley and Hannah Cripe and great grandson of Coeur d’ Alene ID; beloved sister-in-law, Marianne Swanson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
