Obituary of Frederick B. Axtell

Frederick “Fred” B. Axtell Frederick “Fred” Axtell, age 89, of Erie, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. He was born on August 13, 1933 in Oakland, CA, the son of the late Henry M. and Isabelle Powers Axtell. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Fred received his BA degree in Sociology at the Univ. of CA at Berkeley and his Master of Science in Sociology at the Illinois Inst. of Technology. He had a broad base of teaching and was a Professor at Gannon College. He was well adapted to research, planning, and supervision. At Gannon he chaired his dept. and supervised a teaching staff of 11. He served with Erie community leaders through civic organizations and mentored many students. He was a very godly person and had a soul like an angel. He attended church weekly and brought many people to the house of the Lord. He will be missed by many friends and loved ones; especially Darcie Leuschen Siggia and Martin R. Scott who helped care for Fred during his illness. Friends may call on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. from 2 pm until time of Memorial prayers at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
