He loved the outdoors, spending much of his free time golfing and gardening. He was generous in sharing his interests with those around him, especially his family. He taught his wife to golf, which became a life-long hobby of theirs. He also taught his daughters tennis, board, and card games. His home was known within the Wildwood subdivision for his beautiful flowers and Christmas lighting displays. He also loved music, cars, and was an avid history buff. He was a member of the Winton Country Club in Amherst, Virginia. He would share his political views with anyone who would listen.
