Obituary of Valerie Jean Boyle

Valerie Jean Boyle, age 67, of Millcreek Twp., passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
She was born on September 27, 1955, in Oakland, CA, the daughter of Bob and Fran Gosser of Easton, MD.
Valerie moved many places while growing up; CA, OH, MI, FL, and lastly Erie.
She fell in love with Erie and at age 17 she knew she wanted to stay here. She graduated from McDowell H.S. in 1973.
Valerie became a resident child care technician at Erie Home for Infants and Adults where she began her extensive career as a caregiver.
She put herself through LPN school at the Erie School District’s LPN program.
Upon completion, she was encouraged by her nurse manager to return to school where she graduated from the Hamot School of Nursing in 1975; becoming a RN.
She worked at Hamot Medical Center for 42 years until her retirement after diagnosis of breast cancer.
During her tenure she provided care to countless patients as a nurse in different departments which included; IV team, Surgical ICU, Pre-Op and Recovery Room, Radiology, Special Procedures, and Gastroenterology.
She brought joy to many patients and colleagues. Peers enjoyed her creativity and her crazy sense of humor. She had a passion for all animals including many dogs, cats, and birds who were like children to her over the years.
She enjoyed the Peninsula, decorating, gardening, fashion, painting, cross-stitching, and football. She was a Ravens fan much to the dismay of her husband.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her beloved husband Jim whom she married on Oct. 23, 1999.
Also survived by 2 sisters; Cindy (Bill) of MD, Jeanette of MD, and several nephews, nieces, grand nephews, brother-in-law Tom, brother-in-law Richard, and sister-in-law Mary Ann.
Private services were handled at the convenience of the family by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Jim would like to thank the hospice team and their lifelong friends who helped her complete her journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ANNA Shelter.
