Obituary of Marilyn Kay (Meyers) Thompson

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marilyn K. Meyers Thompson Marilyn K (Meyers) Thompson passed away on August 28, 2023 at UPMC Hamot. She was born in the Spring of 1946 in Erie, PA to Wilbur J and Helen M (Frame) Meyers. She attended Emerson and Rosevelt schools in Erie and Westminster and McDowell in Millcreek, graduating as a member of the Honor Society in 1964. Marilyn graduated from Edinboro University with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1968. She subsequently taught First Grade in the Fairview School District for five years, including a stint as lead teacher at a satellite school due to overcrowding. Marilyn married Douglas J Thompson in June of 1969. They moved into their first house in Millcreek in 1973 and have lived in Millcreek ever since. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, uncles Elmer, Leslie, & William, and aunts Myrtle, Dorothy, Betty, & Jean. She is survived by her husband Doug, son Ryan of Arlington, VA, son Sean, granddaughter Fionah and grandson Braiden, of Fairfield, CA, sister Beverly Lindey (Ron) of Naples, FL along with nephew Matt Lindey and niece Kim Lindey. Marilyn was the epitome of a nurturing soul, a people pleaser in the best sense of the term. In her youth she did this through work in school, in her teaching career, in the neighborhood, and in her continued advocacy for POW/MIAs and veterans. Then as a mother of two fine sons, she was an active volunteer in schools, scouting, church, and with children at risk. Through it all she was the most loving, supportive, self-sacrificing wife a man could ask for. The worlds of those who knew her, who were touched by her, grew a bit dimmer with her passing. It would be her fervent hope that we who were blessed by her friendship and love honor her by brightening other’s worlds as we move forward in our own. Marilyn asked that there be no public visitation or service with her passing. The Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. is handling all arrangements. A private, family service will be held graveside at some point in the future. Those who might wish to contribute in her memory are respectfully asked to consider: Community Shelter Services, 655 West 16th St., Erie PA 16502-1606, 814-455-4369, https://communityshelter.org/
