Dallas “Byrd” E. Haight
Dallas “Byrd” E. Haight, age 86, of Millcreek Twp., passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at St. Mary’s Home, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness of Parkinsons and Dementia.
He was born in Youngsville, PA on July 12, 1937, the son of the late Dallas D. and Lua Loomis Haight.
Dallas was employed at Lord Corp. and retired from James H. Cross Co.
He was a member of VFW Post 470, the Elks Lodge #67, and the Siebenbuerger Club.
Byrd played for the Pittsburgh Pirate’s farm team club from 1955-1956, the Glenwood League from 1958-1971, he played catcher for coach Ivan George in the U.E. 506 team from 1958-1962, and catcher for the Ferraro Ford team under Bob Bowen from 1962-1971, and was named All Tournament Catcher in three state teams.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, car rides around Presque Isle, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis J. Haight in 2016, one sister Carolyn Nyberg, three brothers; Rodney, Elmer, and Norman Haight.
He is survived by eight children: Thomas Haight (Deborah) of SC, Daniel Haight, Patrick Haight, Sean Haight (Amy), Robert Haight (Teresa) all of Erie, David Haight (Elizabeth) of NY, Geoffrey Haight (Toni) of NC, and Casey Lockwood (Ronald) of Millcreek. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Dallas, Evan (Christina), Jennifer (Scott), Joshua, Alyssa, Hannah, Makenna (Jake), Brenna (Cody), Samantha, Shianne, Sianna, Shaylyn, Ava, four great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law Kay Lyon Winfrey, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 5 PM until the time of a Memorial Remembrance Service at 7 PM.
The family would like to thank Westlake Woods Assisted Living, St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, and the UPMC Hospice.
