Dorothy Griffith
Dorothy "Dottie" Griffith, 79, of Fairview Township, died unexpectedly Monday at her home. She was born in Erie on May 12, 1929, the daughter of the late Clara and Richard McGrath.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Frederick W. Griffith. A homemaker most of her life, Dottie was later employed by Carlisle's department store and was a manager of seasonal Christmas stores at the mall. She took pride in and loved her family and home, and enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques and making large holiday meals for her family.
Dottie was preceded in death by her brother Lester Goetz, and twin brothers, Richard and Robert McGrath. She is survived by her six children: Karen A. Hofius and her husband Lynn, of Greene Twp.; Dianne J. Chrzanowski and her husband Dan, of Canton, Ohio; Frederick Griffith Jr. and his wife Mary; William L. Griffith and his wife Fran; James E. Griffith, and John F. Griffith
and his wife Kathy, all of Erie. Also surviving is a beloved sister, Audrey Monigold, of San Jose, Calif., and family friend Lori Duby of Wesleyville. Dottie was grandmother to Daniel and Colleen Chrzanowski, Sarah and Shelly Hofius, and Melanie, Benjamin, Justin, Breanna, Jacob and Joshua Griffith. She also had seven great-grandchildren. Private visitation.
Friends are invited to a committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505 or to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 915 State St., Erie, PA 16501. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
