Joseph V. Hoobler
Joseph V. Hoobler, age 91, passed away peacefully at 12:05 am on Thursday, June 20, 2024 in Erie, PA. He was born on December 12, 1932, at Cleveland Hospital to the late Vernon F. and Leanna Hazel-Hoobler of Dalton, OH. Joe graduated from Dalton H.S. in 1951 and began his career as a carpenter. He then proudly served his country in the U S Air Force as an aircraft mechanic stationed in GA. After his military service, Joe pursued higher education at Tri-State College in IN. Joe relocated to the Philadelphia area where he met his beloved wife, Laurel Greene, and they were married in 1963. His career as a mechanical engineer with Struthers Wells brought them to Warren, PA in 1964. Together, Joe and Laural raised three children: James L. Hoobler (Gloria), Robert J. Hoobler (Erin), and Linda A. Hoobler-Wolcott (Hugh). Family was the center of Joe’s life and he cherished his role as grandfather to seven grandchildren: Zoe, Cameron, Taylor, Vaughn, Kyle, Chase, and Hughie, as well as two great-grandchildren: Norah and Vaughnna. Joe lived in Warren, PA until his retirement from Struthers Wells in 1999, after which he and Laurel relocated to Auburndale, FL, where they enjoyed 22 years of retirement together. In 2021, Joe returned to the Erie area to be closer to family. Joe was a devoted Christian and found great fulfillment through his active involvement in his church community. He was also passionate about bowling and spent many enjoyable hours on the lanes. For decades, Joe was an enthusiastic square dancer, forming lasting friendships with fellow dancers. He was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying baseball and NASCAR, and he proudly supported the Cleveland Browns. Joseph V. Hoobler will be remembered fondly for his unwavering faith, his love of family, his commitment to his community, and his love for life. A private family service will be held to celebrate Joe’s life by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Erie, PA 16506.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Post 7530, in memory of Joseph V. Hoobler. Rest peacefully, Joe. Your warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you.
