Obituary of Richard P. "Dick" Harrington

Richard P. “Dick” Harrington Richard P. “Dick” Harrington, age 90, of Fairview, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born on May 4, 1934 in Johnsonburg, PA, to the late A. Kenneth Harrington and Carolyn McKnight Harrington. Dick was a 1952 graduate of East H.S. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, proudly serving in the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. After honorably leaving the USMC, he joined the Pennsylvania State Police on October 14, 1957, retiring in May of 1984. He loved his work and had an exciting career. When Dick found retirement too quiet, he began working at Hamot Hospital as Lieutenant of Security until he retired again in the early 2000’s. He married the love of his life, the late Carole Comstock in 1960. Together they had two children. Their greatest joy was their grandchildren. They loved to play cards, go on small day trips, and garden on their property together. Dick loved to ride his tractor and putz in the yard. Dick also had a great sense of humor and loved a practical joke. Dick is survived by his two children, Holly Pawlowski (Terry) and Greg Harrington (Melissa). Five grandchildren; Amanda Glomb (Greg), Corrinne Benesh (Michael), Ryan Pawlowski (girlfriend, Jennifer Reitz), Dr. Rachael Harrington (Dr. Riju Goupta), and Lauren Harrington (Shea Sadler). He is further survived by his “little guy”, great-grandson, Liam Glomb. The family would like to thank the staff of Manchester Commons for their loving care of our father both before and during his illness. And thank you to all the wonderful residents who became his friends, especially his card club crew which included his dear friend Mary, as well as Jan and Ron. Friends may call upon the family on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Holy Cross R.C. Church, 7100 W. Ridge Rd., Fairview, PA 16415 from 8 am until the time of the Memorial Mass at 10 am.
