Eugene “Gene” Edward Cudny
Eugene “Gene” E. Cudny, age 80, of Millcreek Twp., passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and friends. He was born in Erie on March 4, 1944, the son of the late Walter E. and Anna Slupski Cudny. Gene served in the US Army during the Vietnam War stationed in Fairbanks, AL.
He was employed at GE for 25 years until his early retirement in 2002 due to CIDP Disease which is a neuromuscular disorder that effects the peripheral nervous system which resulted in severe loss of ambulation.
Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a die-hard Steelers and Erie Blades fan. He enjoyed bowling in both single and double leagues and you could find Gene playing solitaire on his I-Pad.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Maxine A. Vanderhoff Cudny, two siblings; Carol Post (Larry) of Brocton, NY, Irene Fenno (Dean) of Corry, PA, one son Kenn J. Cudny of Erie, one grandson Avery Markham of TX, and one sister-in-law Donna Vandervort of Spring Creek, PA.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son Brian Markham in 2000.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Family Hospice of UPMC Erie for all their care, especially the nurses and aides for their emotional and personal support. Also, at UPMC-Hamot (Sue at the front lobby), the (valet service) who treated Gene special, and all the doctors and staff who interacted with Gene, especially the 6 main out-patient nurses and aides who gave infusion treatments to Gene with special care and they continue their emotional support for Max, the staff at LECOM Rehab Center, Dr. Rothman at the Cancer Center, and Dr. James DeMatteis.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 2 pm until time of remembrance at 4 pm. Private interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.
