Kenneth F. Hittle
Kenneth "Ken" F. Hittle, age 91, formerly of Penn Hills, Fox Chapel, Sewickley, and Allison Park died Monday, November 7, 2011 at ForestView Skilled Nursing Center in Erie, PA. Ken was born in Pittsburgh on January 21, 1920, the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Nicolson Hittle.
He was a graduate of Westinghouse High School, Class of 1939, where he met his sweetheart and future wife of 64 years, Marian Neubauer Hittle.
Ken served in the US Army during WWII. He was employed with Carmac Chemical Co. until his retirement. For enjoyment, he devoted much of his free time to different areas of the Shrine. He was active in Blue Lodge #546, the Royal Order of Jesters, Fellows Club, and many other caravans and groups within the Shrine. He particularly enjoyed the Toy Committee, where they restored broken toys for children. He also served on the board for the Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children in Philadelphia for many years. He became Potentate of the Syria Shrine in 1976. He was a long time member of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marian M. Neubauer Hittle in 2007, a grandson, Michael Kenneth Tibbits and one brother, Robert Hittle. He is survived by two sons, Tom Hittle and his wife, Linda, of San Diego, CA and Jim Hittle and his wife, Peggy, of Olathe, KS, one daughter, Sue Tibbits and her husband, Don, of Erie, PA, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
The Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd, Erie, PA 16506 handled all local arrangements. A private service will be held at Church of the Cross, Erie, PA, on Saturday, November 19th, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Syria Shrine, 1877 Shriners Way, Cheswick, PA 15024 or to the Michael Tibbits Scholarship Fund at Church of the Cross, 5901 Millfair Road, Fairview, PA 16415.
