Mary Alice Hultgren
Mary Alice Butt Hultgren, age 88, formerly of Millcreek, passed away on December 3 at ForestView. She was born in Erie, Pa. on February 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Jacob and Leota Allen Butt.
She was a graduate of Academy High School and, after graduation, moved to Pittsburgh briefly to work with children in an orphanage, an experience she treasured her entire life. She worked for many years in sales at the former Boston Store and Kaufmann's, as well as Brown Brothers and K-mart Foods. A long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school and helped make quilts with Patches of Love. She was a member of the Presque Isle Women's Club and for many years enjoyed ushering at the Erie Playhouse. She also enjoyed spending time with her many dear and devoted friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Hultgren; a son, Gilbert "Chip" Hultgren; and her step-daughter, Jean Hultgren Henry. She is survived by two sons, Patrick Hultgren and his wife, Sheila, of Holiday, Fla., and Thomas Hultgren and his wife, Sheila, of Erie, Pa. She is the grandmother of Patrick Hultgren, Cassandra Hultgren Ott, Matthew Hultgren, Thomas Hultgren, Jr., Jessica Hultgren and Devin Hultgren (both currently serving their country in Iraq), Debbie Henry Phipps, Ronald Henry, and Corey Henry; along with several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Krebs.
Friends may call at the DUSCKAS-MARTIN FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, INC. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Monday at 10:00 a.m. for the funeral service. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 3108 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, PA 16506 or to the VNA Hospice, 1305 Peach St. Erie, PA 16501.
