Stanley D. Jankowski
Stanley D. "Tod" Jankowski, age 73, of Summit Twp., went to be with the Lord at the Erie Veterans Affairs Med. Ctr. on September 5, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a 5 month illness attributed to his war-time service in Vietnam.
He was born in Erie on January 29, 1939 the son of the late, Stanley E. Jankowski and Stella Lach Jankowski Ferritto. Stanley attended Holy Trinity Elementary School, was a 1957 graduate of Cathedral Prep, received his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Southern Miss., an Associate Degree in Architectural Technology from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX in 1976 and he attended several schools while in the Navy including; Geodetic Surveying at Ft. Belvoir, VA.
Stanley retired from the US Navy after 23 years of service and returned to Erie, While in the Navy he was SEABEES (EAC), E7 and was deployed outside of the US in: Cuba, Guam, Hawaii, Okinawa, Midway Island, Diego Garcia, and Vietnam.
After the Navy he was employed for nine and a half years with the Forest Service in Warren, PA until retirement. He was a member of the VFW, Sunflower Club, Gem City Gun Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold panning, and prospecting.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann Buczynski Jankowski, his step-father, Frank Ferritto, five sons: Mark, Michael (Diana), Stephen, Keith, Christopher (Joetta), ten grandchildren: Kevin, Mathew, Ashton, Brandon, Shelbie, Christopher, Caitlin, Victoria, Elizabeth, Ryan, and a new grandchild due on September 11.
Also surviving are two sisters; Dolores Madura (Norbert) and Theresa Hiney (Robert).
He was preceded in death by one nephew, Richard Madura.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and are invited there on Monday at 9:15 a.m. for prayers followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church - Bread of Life Community, 147 West 24th Street, Erie at 10:00 a.m. Private interment with full military honors on Patriot Day (9/11) at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW of your choice in the name of Stanley.
