Mary Margaret (Dowling) Janowski
Mary Margaret (Dowling) Janowski, of Erie, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 1, 2013 at UPMC-Hamot. She was born in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on December 31, 1926, the daughter of the late, Ohmer and Wilma Dooling Dowling.
The family moved to Hartford, AL where she grew up and attended school. She attended Campbell's Business College in Dothan, AL. She moved to Erie in 1947. She worked at the J.C. Penney Co. for twenty-eight years. She was a Department manager when she retired in 1992. She was a member of the First Alliance Church on Zimmerly Road in Erie. She was on the committee to decorate the church and on the Funeral committee to cook meals. She volunteered one day a week to work in the office and one day a week to work on Pastor's research material. She enjoyed many crafts. She made silk flower arrangements. She enjoyed reading. She wrote Gramma's Recipe book and had it for members of her family and friends and was doing research on the family's history.
Survivors include a daughter, Veronica (Ronnie), and her husband, David Skibicki, of Erie, two sons; Leonard and his wife, Sylvia Janowski, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Timothy Janowski, of Meadville, PA, one sister; Kathleen Sarvis, of Hartford, AL, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Flora Nell Pierson and Dorothy Dell Strickland and one brother, Donald Dowling.
Friends may call at Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Wednesday for the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Alliance Building Fund, 2939 Zimmerly Road, Erie, PA 16506.
