Anna Mae "Ann" Lester
Anna Mae "Ann" Lester, age 87, of Hastings Road, Millcreek Twp., died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Golden LivingCenter, Cambridge Springs, surrounded by her loving family. Ann was born on March 2, 1921 in Standish, Mich., the daughter of the late Bert and Elsie (Johnston) Davidson.
An Erie resident since 1944, she graduated from Standish (Michigan) High School and entered the U.S. Navy, where she served with the transportation unit in Washington, DC during WW II. She and her husband Jack were recently honored by the local veterans by having their pictures engraved on the WW II memorial that is placed near Veterans Memorial Stadium on Upper State Street. She raised her family and enjoyed being a homemaker. During the 1960's Ann and her husband Jack, were both employed with Franks Cleaners on West 8th Street as Managers in the Dry Cleaning department. Later on she assisted her husband, as office manager, in the running of Custom Kitchens. Ann had also been an Avon and Sara Coventry representative for several years. Active in the Ladies of the Shrine, Ann enjoyed spending time with her husband Jack, attending the Shriner's affairs. She had been an avid bowler. However, what Ann enjoyed most was being around her family. Mrs. Lester was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, and the Zem Zem Ladies of the Shrine.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John H. "Jack" Lester, whom she married on October 13, 1944 in Washington, DC, her son Ronald Lester and his wife Lorrie of Erie, her four daughters: Donna Glowacki and her husband Robert of Omaha, Neb., Bonnie Hampy, Betty Bowers and her husband David, and Cindy Rossman all of Erie. Ann is further survived by her 11 Grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her great grandson, Ashton Wells, and by her brother, Clark Davidson.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Erie, Pa. and are invited to attend the Funeral Services there on Monday morning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Spore, of Lakewood United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, Attn: Wheel Chair Repair Program, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
