James F. Lindner
Surrounded by his loving family, James F. Lindner passed away at his home on Monday, August 27, 2012. Jim fought a very long and courageous seven and a half year battle with colon cancer; never complaining and thinking of his family until the end. He was so strong and brave and gave his family and friends the strength they needed to make it through so many difficult times.
Jim was born, May 15, 1944, in Erie to the late Rudolph and Gertrude Lindner. He graduated from McDowell High School in 1962 and completed the apprenticeship program through Sheet Metal Union Local #12. Many of his years in the Union were spent at Rabe Environmental Systems. He also served in the National Guard. Jim married his loving wife, Sonja Cohlhepp Lindner on November 29, 1969. He is also survived by two children, who spent the last weeks constantly at his side,
Greg Lindner of Erie and Lisa Schwartz and her husband, Shawn, also of Erie and their three little angels: Delaney Grace and her twin brothers, Logan Martin and Brennan Scott. Jim adored his grandchildren and found much of his strength in their love. Jim is also survived by sisters: Lynn Murray (Allen Lande), of Miami, FL, Kathy Berg (Mark), of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Barb Fitzgerald, of Tucson, AZ, a brother, Richard Lindner, of Erie, a special niece, Marcia Lindner, of Erie, and several out of town nephews and niece. He will be greatly missed by lap dogs, Cody and Maggie, who only left his side when he became too excited during a Steelers football game! Jim will forever be missed and greatly loved by his family. We would like to thank the incredible Great Lakes Hospice team for their support and comfort.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held there on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Robert Lewis. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Suite 216, Erie, PA 16501.
