Obituary of Carolyn Lingenfelter

Carolyn Lucille Leemhuis Lingenfelter Carolyn Lucille (Leemhuis) Lingenfelter of 3933 Tonquin St., Erie, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at the age of 78 after a brief illness. Mrs. Lingenfelter was born on August 2, 1930, in Erie to the late Carl and Lucille Leemhuis and lived in the Erie area her entire life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, David C. Lingenfelter, and her brothers, Paul and Robert Leemhuis. She is survived by her son, David B. Lingenfelter and her granddaughter, Alexis Lingenfelter. Ms. Lingenfelter graduated from Academy High School, earned her baccalaureate degree from Wittenberg College, and achieved her Masters of Education Degree at Edinboro College. She dedicated her career to the teaching of music in the Millcreek public school system. She taught music to elementary students throughout her career, directed the McDowell High School and Interment School orchestra, and touched the lives of generations of Millcreek residents. Mrs. Lingenfelter was a lifelong member of Luther Memorial Church in Erie. After retirement, Mrs. Lingenfelter actively pursued her interests in the arts with painting in various media, playing the piano, and frequently actively pursued her interest in the arts with painting in various media, playing the piano, and frequenting the Erie Symphony, Erie Playhouse, as well as numerous private performances. Several of her paintings received awards at exhibitions and one of her works is displayed at the Millcreek Township Municipal Building. She enjoyed painting with her friends in "Thunder and Enlightenment," a group of local artists. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, with viewing to be held immediately before the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Luther Memorial Church. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery following the service. The family requests that memorials be directed to Luther Memorial Church, 223 West Tenth Street, Erie, PA 16501, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are being handled through the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
