Obituary of Vivian Longstreet

Vivian Walker Faustine Longstreet Vivian Longstreet, age 91, of Millcreek Twp., was called to heaven by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 26, 2009 following an extended illness. She was born on August 8, 1918, the daughter of the late Rosa (Mars) and John Charles Fremont Walker. Vivian was a devoted Christian and an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. She used her gift of music to glorify the Lord as a choir member and soloist. She also was blessed by the friendship and fellowship of her ladies' Bible study. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Vernon D. Faustine in 1963 and Donald E. Longstreet in 1991; her infant sister, Bertha Walker, sister, Gladys (Walker) Griffen, step-brother, Earl Walker, brothers, Winferd and Ivan Walker, nephew, Robert Griffen and son-in-law, Alan R. Shattuck. Vivian was the loving wife of Donald E. Longstreet for 25 years. She enjoyed the love and friendship of her two step-daughters, Beverly Klein and her husband, Roger, of Waterford and Maudine Shattuck and the late, Alan R., of Belle Valley. She was grandmother of Melissa Zatkiewicz and her husband, David, of North Kingsville, OH, Heather Pound and her husband, Dale, of North East, Jennifer Schlosser and her husband, Craig, of Girard, Emily Sonney and her husband, Eric Sr., of Waterford, Alan J. Shattuck and his wife, Stephanie, of Belle Valley, Natalie Luxon and her husband, William Jr., of Lake City. Also survived by her devoted niece, Judy Faustine, of Girard, sixteen great-grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews. Vivian graduated from Academy High School, February class of 1937. She was soprano soloist when the Academy Choir sang at Radio City Music Hall under the direction of "Pop" Grender. She was a charter member of the Symphonic Choir and also soloist at their concert at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. In 1949, she graduated from the Erie Conservatory of Music where she later taught voice. Vivian also was "Gretel" in the Erie Opera Company's 1954 production of Hansel & Gretel. She also directed choir at Elmwood Presbyterian Church. She worked as an elevator operator at the Boston Store and later at Trask Department Store,and Les Crago Jewelers. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Richard Bailey of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1781 West 38th St., Erie, PA 16508 or to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, Palace Business Center, 915 State St., Erie, PA 16501.
