Mary M. "Peg" Rice Markievich Mary M. "Peg" Rice Markievich, age 92, of Millcreek Twp., died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Erie Presbyterian Home after a brief illness. She was born in Ridgway, PA on October 6, 1917, the daughter of the late, John T. and Margaret S. Rice. She resided in the Erie area since 1953. She graduated from St. Catherine H. S. in DuBois, the Pittsburgh Hospital School of Nursing in 1940 and was proud to serve in the US Army as a nurse during WWII in Liverpool, U.K., Walter Reed Hospital, and Lawson General Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace R. C. Church and enjoyed gardening, being a den mother in scouts and antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Markievich who died on May 2, 2008, one son, Edwin J. Markievich in 1968, two sisters; Elizabeth Kozminski, Rita Rice, three brothers: John, Bernard and James Rice. Peg is survived by her children: Mary I. Haldi (Scott) of Millcreek Twp., Gregory J. Markievich (Mary) of McKean, Eugene A. Markievich (Michelle) of St. Petersburg, FL, one sister, Anne Lindberg of Ridgway, 4 grandchildren: Andrew, Lesley, Allison, and Alek Markievich, great grandchildren, Braden and Audrey, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Further visitation will take place on Friday at Leo Nedza Funeral Home, W. DuBois Ave., DuBois, PA from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Catherine of Siena Parish at 1:00 p.m., 116 South State St., DuBois. Private interment St. Catherine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the DuBois Area Catholic Schools, PO Box 567, 200 Central Christian Road, DuBois, PA 15801 or to West Ridge Fire Department, 3142 West Ridge Rd. Erie, PA 16506.
