Walter L. Martz
Walter L. Martz, age 79, went peacefully to his heavenly home on Friday, March 13, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center. He was born in Knox, Pa. on June 28, 1929, the son of the late Carl and Dorothy Gray Martz. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Martz, of Marietta, Ga.
Walter worked as a manager for Mutual of Omaha Insurance, receiving many awards for his work before retiring in 1992. After retirement, he was active as a volunteer for the "Meals on Wheels" program. He was the friendly face which people looked forward to seeing as he delivered their food. He did this for fifteen years serving as President for some of this time and only stopped because of his health. Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his main joy in life was spending time with his beloved family. His family will always cherish the memories of the wonderful times spent with Popsie.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty six years, Mildred Schermer Martz, his children; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Dennis Bolger, of Edinboro, and his son, Carl Martz, of Edinboro. He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren: Kate Walsh and her husband, Derek, Colleen Rhodes and her husband, Michael, Benjamin Martz, Matthew Martz, and Carla Martz. Also surviving are three great- grandchildren who gave him such joy: Allison Walsh and Sam and Eva Rhodes. For those who knew and loved Walter, he will always be remembered for his cheerful and positive outlook on life.
