Charles J. McFadden, Sr.
Charles J. McFadden, Sr., age 75, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at his Millcreek Twp. residence surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. He was born on December 26, 1934 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Dr. Patrick J. McFadden and Mary Cronin McFadden Carney.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and employed and retired from General Electric. He was then a drivers' instructor at Mathis Driving School. He was a member of S.P.E.B.Q.S.A. ( a barbershop harmony chorus) chapters both in Erie and Ashtabula and an active member of Our Lady of Peace. He enjoyed woodworking, crocheting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Liebel McFadden, a son, Stephen A. McFadden, a brother, and a sister.
He is survived by his fiancé, Marlene Spencer, seven children: Charles J. McFadden, Jr. (Amy), of McKean, MaryBeth Bush (Thomas, Jr.) of Warren, OH, Catherine Carpenter (Brian) of Milwaukee, WI, Jacqueline M. Cherpak (Matthew) of Erie, Jayne Brunner (Thomas) of Jamestown, NY, Judy Dodge (Michael) of Warren, OH, and John McFadden (Stephanie) of Erie, twenty-nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister, Mary Holodnak of Columbus, OH, three brothers: Patrick McFadden (Betty) of Fairfield, CA, Paul McFadden (Rose Marie) of Erie, William McFadden (Cathy) of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. for the prayer service followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of NW PA, 110 West 10th St., Erie, PA 16501 or Heartland Home Health Care, 719 Indiana Dr., Erie, PA 16505.
