Donald E. Merryman


Donald Eugene Merryman, age 88, of Erie, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Independence Court Nursing Home. "Gone but not forgotten, to the better land above. The memories are blessed of the dear one that we loved. He is gone to be with Jesus, to bow before the throng. Oh, it would be so glorious when we meet in Heaven's home."


He was born on April 9, 1920, in Shippenville, PA, the son of the late, Edward and Myrtle Briggs Merryman. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He was employed at Kaiser Aluminum until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and square dancing with the Y Squares.


He was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrna Ollar, one son, Roger Merryman, three brothers: Jay, Russell, and John, two sisters, Marie and Vivian and one stepdaughter, Elaine. He is survived by his wife, Irene Shreve Merryman, one grandson, Jeff Strauss, great granddaughter, Lori Strauss, stepdaughter, Calla Joy Rose, step granddaughter, Cynthia (Alex) Rushton, step great grandchildren, Shawn Michael Cessna, Karen V. Keefer, and two step great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Saturday for the funeral service at 10:00 am. conducted by the Rev. Alex Rushton. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 400, Kansas City, MO 64114-3367 or to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, Palace Business Centre, 915 State St., Erie, PA 16501.
