Obituary of Marilyn Metzger

Marilyn H. Wittkowski Metzger Marilyn H. Metzger, age 76, of Lake Shore Drive, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Saint Vincent Health Center following a brief illness. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 16, 1931, the daughter of the late John and Ebba Peterson Wittkowski. She graduated from high school and business college in Grand Rapids. She and her former husband, Charles E. Metzger, Sr. relocated to Erie, PA. She had been the owner and operator of Metzger's La-Z-Boy Showcase Shoppe on Peninsula Drive for many years prior to her retirement. Marilyn was a member of St. Julia Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, a brother, Jim Wittkowski and a sister, Jane Parkins. She is survived by her daughter, Christine Metzger Nichols, and her husband, Bill, of Erie and two sons, Mark A. Metzger, and his wife, Tammy, also of Erie, and Charles E. Metzger, Jr. of Buffalo, NY; two granddaughters, Cassidy and Riley Metzger. She is further survived by a sister Joanne Helsel, and two brothers, Dick and his wife, Lois, and David Wittkowski, all of Grand Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julia's Church, 638 Roslyn Avenue on Friday at 1 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road. Private interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Julia Church, 638 Roslyn Avenue, Erie, PA 16505 or the Erie Humane Society, 2707 Interchange Road, Erie, PA 16506.
