John "Jack" J. Monahan
Jack Monahan, age 85, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie on November 21, 1926, the son of the late Thomas and Margaret McEnrey Monahan.
He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He served in the US Army Air Corp and then attended Gannon University. He began his clothing profession with Playtex Co. and then owned and operated his own clothier store, Jack Monahan LTD. in the Colony Plaza. He continued his career with many men's clothing stores and then became a private well known textile designer making shirts for customers across the globe.
Jack was a former member of the Erie Club, the Rotary Club, the Maennerchor Club, and a Board member of the YMCA. He attended St Jude the Apostle R.C. Church. He loved playing golf, going to Train concerts, attending the Philharmonic, walking, working out, and he was an avid long time Steelers fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann Timon Monahan in 1998, one brother, Thomas Monahan, one sister, Mary Pat Monahan, and an infant grandson, Michael Monahan.
He is survived by one brother Robert "Mick" Monahan (Connie) of Erie, his children: Timothy M. Monahan (Cheryl) of Columbia, SC, John Monahan (Debbie) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Scott Monahan (Vicki) of Bel Aire, MD, Kelly DiPrinzio (Jonathan) of Erie, Tracy Baker (Randall) of Millcreek Twp., Kerry Phillips (Douglas) of Fairview, Patrick Monahan (Amber) of Seattle, WA, 23 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and his sweetheart, Anne Flickinger, of Millcreek.
Friends are invited to call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. for an extended visitation on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Jude R.C. Church 2801 West 6th Street, Erie, PA 16505 on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Suite 216, Erie, PA 16501 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
