Gordon A. Navecky, Sr.
Gordon A. Navecky, Sr., 82, of Albion, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon, January 25, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Erie, June 17, 1930, son of the late Frank J. and Edna Green Navecky. He lived in the Erie area all of his life.
He was employed as a sheet metal worker working out of the Union Hall retiring in 1992. He attended Millcreek High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1949 serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed Woodworking searching the Internet for plans, gardening, was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross along with many other varied interests, was a member of the Millcreek American Legion Post 733 and a Life Member of the Siebenbuerger Club Singing Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Lillian Marie Michalak Navecky, a grandson, Andrew Harvey and a son-in-law, David Harvey.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Susan Harvey-Gibbs and her husband Nelson Gibbs of Akron, Ohio and Nancy Ann Edna Baldwin of Erie, PA; a son Allan Navecky, Jr. and his wife Diane of Warren, Ohio; two brothers, Norman Navecky and his wife Joan and Frank Navecky and his wife Joyce, both of Girard; a sister, June Albert of Millcreek. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Allan Navecky, III and his fiancée, Christine Steele, Alexis and David Harvey and Robert and Nicole Baldwin and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral and Crematory, Inc., 2416 Sterrettania Road. A service will be held there Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Red Cross, 4961 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, PA 16509 or Erie City Mission, 5800 Peach St., Erie, PA 16509.
