Kenneth "Clyde" Edwin Nelson
Kenneth "Clyde" Edwin Nelson of Orlando, FL, died on Sunday, November 11, 2007. He was born on September 3, 1917 in Erie, the son of the late Edwin R. Nelson and Esther Johnson Nelson. He graduated from Erie East H. S., after which he received a Bachelors degree in History from King's College, NY. He continued his studies at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in suburban Philadelphia, where he was awarded a Masters of Divinity. His studies then took him to the University of Pennsylvania, culminating in a Masters degree and a PhD in History. His doctoral studies also included two years at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
His career as an educator began at Rutgers University, NJ, and included several years on the faculty of Elizabethtown College (PA). After a year at Central Missouri State, he and his family moved to Stone Mountain, GA, where he resided for more than thirty years. He became chairman of the Social Sciences Division of DeKalb Community College, a position he held until his retirement. At several points during his career, he also served as interim pastor at local churches.
Five siblings survive him: Richard V. Nelson of Winston-Salem, NC, and Isolene Nelson Cappel, Mercedes E. Nelson, Edwin R. Nelson, Jr., and William A. Nelson, all of Erie. He is also survived by his wife of 61 years, Priscilla MacIntire Nelson, two daughters: Kimberly Nelson Winter, of Wayland, MA, Kristen Nelson Flaniken, of Orlando, FL, and a son, Kenneth E. Nelson, Jr., of Stone Mountain, GA. Five grandchildren continue his legacy.
Known as "Clyde" or "Ken" to friends and family, he loved and was devoted to his family, was an avid traveler, and was a man of great faith in Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
