Daniel A. Norrgran, Jr.
Daniel "Dan" Allen Norrgran, Jr., age 59, of Millcreek Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born on November 16, 1952 in St. Paul, MN the son of Colleen Agnes (Herne) Norrgran of Erie and the late Daniel Allen Norrgran, Sr.
Dan received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hamline University, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Penn State.
He was employed at Eriez Magnetics for 27 years, most recently serving as manager of the Minerals & Materials Processing Division; where he traveled extensively worldwide in growing the company's global equipment sales to the Mining, Coal Processing, Industrial Minerals, and other related industries into Eriez' largest served markets. Dan earned multiple patents in process technology, helped in developing a High Intensity Magnetic Separator, and was a prolific writer; authoring dozens of technical papers on magnetic separation advancements which were published in professional trade journals throughout the world. He was a respected member of several professional associations including; the Society of Mining Engineers, where he served as National Committee Chairman, the Canadian Institute of Metallurgy, and the International Minerals Association. In 2004, Dan received Eriez' highest honor as Person of the Year in recognition of his overall contributions to the company.
Dan enjoyed fishing, watching NFL, and being a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fanatic. He particularly enjoyed camping and time spent around campfires with his friends from the Fire Tribe. He also enjoyed time spent with Sue going to auctions and garage sales, and assisting with her business. Dan loved spending time with Nathan and all of Nathan's friends. He was Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack #134.
Dan will be remembered for his keen intelligence, sharp wit, generous nature, and storytelling; even those stories he embellished for entertainment value.
He was the beloved husband of Susan; loving father of Nathan, of whom he was very proud; dear son of Colleen, little brother to Cynthia Norrgran, MD (Fred DeBrovner); dear friend of his brother-in-law, Jim; one niece and one nephew.
Dan will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and his dog, Rambo.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Monday at 11:00 a.m. for the funeral service conducted by the Rev. Keith McGarvey. Private interment.
