George L. Pease
George Lewis Pease, 74, of Millcreek Township, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a short bout of heart and kidney problems.
George was born July 30, 1934 in Erie, and was a graduate of Millcreek High School. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia, his master's degree from Cornell University, and held an economics fellowship at Colorado State University. He retired in 1992 after teaching social studies for 32 years at McDowell High School, and for a few years in Alaska public schools in the 1960s. He was a lifetime member of the University of Virginia Alumni Association, held memberships in the Millcreek Kiwanis Club, Phi Delta Kappa, and various local, state, and national educational associations. He followed the Cleveland Indians his entire life; enjoyed travel (all 50 states/all Canadian provinces) and reading; and was keenly interested in history and politics.
He is survived by wife, Marilyn J. Pease (Hill), his son Thomas Howard Pease of Charlottesville, Va., his aunt Arlene Spaulding, his sister-in-law, Audrey Karle of West Palm Beach, Fla., nephews Aaron and Christopher Forsyth of Erie, and various friends and relatives living in Erie County and nationwide. He will be fondly remembered as a teacher who mentored generations of Millcreek students that took his political science and economics classes. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Bernice Pease.
Friends may call at the Dusckas - Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a funeral service there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private interment at Platea Cemetery where most of the Pease family is buried.
