Virginia A. Pruyn
Virginia A."Ginny" Pruyn, age 91, of Millcreek Twp., took the hand of God and went to her eternal home on Thursday, August 20, 2009, the day of her and Don's 72nd Wedding Anniversary. She was born on December 25, 1917 in Erie, the daughter of the late, Lewis and Margaret (Freeman) Gunter.
In her life, she worked at General Electric and Diamond National. She was past President of the Ava Maria Society at Saint Patrick's Church in Erie, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader at Saint Patrick's School, and later one of the original "Kitchen Buddies" at the Cauley Memorial. She loved to cook and was well known for her many delicious dinners. She made the best apple pie anywhere. She was a kind and loving lady who would help anyone. She loved her family and friends (she had many). She was a member of St. Patrick's and St Cyprians and enjoyed reading.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Pruyn in 1992, a granddaughter, Jill Ann (Grucza) Costa, and a grandson, James John Pruyn. She is survived by six children: Janet (John) Lippy of Spring Grove, PA, Kenneth (Darlene) Pruyn of Millcreek, Nancy (Tim) Salamonsen of McKean, Diane Bly of Millcreek, Gerald Pruyn of Millcreek, and Maryann (Howard) Galbraith of Edinboro, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Harry Riechel. Virginia had two wonderful caregivers, Joyce Campbell and Sharon Williams. Their kindness and love will always be remembered. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 2 until time of service there at 6:00 p.m. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St., Erie, PA 16501.
