Obituary of Elizabeth Reid

Elizabeth "Liz" Gorton Reid Elizabeth "Liz" Gorton Reid, of Millcreek Twp., died on Friday, December 30, 2011, at UPMC-Hamot from complications of an extended illness. She was born on February 20, 1936 in Erie, the daughter of the late, Harry M. and Rita Thompson Gorton. Her husband, Edward Reid, preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Villa Maria Academy (1954), worked at WSEE, and retired from the American Sterilizer Co. in 1989. Remaining active in her community, she enjoyed acclaim as a local watercolor artist and employed herself as a tireless volunteer at the American Red Cross. Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Harry "Sparky" Gorton of Edinboro, one son, Michael Reid of Erie and one daughter, Jean Reid of Ravenna, OH and their spouses. Also surviving are grandsons: James and Edward Reid, many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for prayers, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 4961 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, PA 16509 or to the Barber National Institute, 100 Barber Place, 136 East Ave., Erie, PA 16507 or to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 5031 West Ridge Rd., Erie, PA 16506.
