Paulino "Polo" Santiago Paulino "Polo" Santiago age 72, of Erie died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on June 27, 1936, the son of the late, Benito and Dolores Gomez Santiago. He resided in the Erie area for the past 17 years and retired from a number of masonry companies. Polo was an active member of the First Church of God Pentecostal. He enjoyed baseball, especially the New York Yankees and boxing. Polo is survived by his wife of 48 years, Edith Mercade Santiago, two children, Carmen Borrero and Paulino Gomez, Jr., two brothers, Rafael and Tani Santiago, one sister, Carmen Maria Santiago, five grandchildren: Juana, Janice, Angel, Jesenia, and Jeserie, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers. Friends may call at the First Church of God Pentecostal, 3510 Pine Ave. on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and are invited there on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. for the funeral service. Interment Erie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Erie, PA 16506.
