Obituary of Doris Schermer

Doris Elaine Bogue Schermer Elaine (Mom) passed from this life at Pleasant Ridge Manor West, on Friday, October 24, 2008. She is now with her husband of 61 years, George, who preceded her in death on April 19, 2008. A life-long resident of Erie County, Elaine was a true helpmate to her husband. Together they raised seven children who married and had 16 grandchildren. Then they watched as their 16 grandchildren grew up, several having families of their own and so far giving them 7 great grandchildren. George and Elaine worked and loved together from the time they said "I Do" until the time of death "Did part Them" - only to bring them back together six months later. In her earlier years, Elaine was an active member of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church, (formerly Our Saviors Lutheran). She cleaned the church with the help of her older children. She saw to it that we all went to church and Sunday School, and made sure that we were all confirmed. Several of us were married at Abiding Hope and had our children baptized there. She also worked for the Food Pantry for many years and served on the church board. Elaine was a homemaker; she kept the home fires burning and was there when her husband came home from work. She enjoyed her grandchildren, which included taking them to their camp in Tidioute and playing bingo. We were truly blessed to have had her with us for over 77 years. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Florence Bogue, and her sister-in-law Joyce Bogue. She is survived by her children: Dorothy Schermer Neenan (Michael), Beverly Schermer Smith (Joe), Sandra Schermer Forbes (Dennis), Donna Schermer Shaw (Jeffrey), Bruce Schermer (Laura Shontz), Gary Schermer (Jennie Bizzarro), Kelly Schermer Calabrese ( Daniel). Her grandchildren: Deborah Neenan Davis (Scott), Brian Neenan (Lynn), Jodi Smith Baldwin (Wayne), Amy Jo Smith, Chad Smith, Dennis Forbes Jr, (Sandi), Tracy Forbes Collins (Daniel), Trevor Shaw, Abigail Shaw, Adrienne Schermer, Brandon Schermer, Amanda Schermer, Paul Schermer, Danielle Calabrese, Cayce Calabrese, Camren Calabrese. Her great grandchildren: Aaron Davis, Andrew Davis, Aubree Neenan, Garrett Neenan, Elissa Neenan, Nick Collins, Mackenzie Collins. Elaine is survived by her brother Richard Bogue and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, INC., 4216 Sterrettania Road on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. You are invited there Tuesday for the funeral services at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Pastor John Coleman of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church.
