Obituary of Douglas Schirra

Douglas "Doug" H. Schirra Douglas "Doug" H. Schirra, age 69, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on July 3, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA., the son of the late Howard and Marge Schirra. He served in the United States Army. He drove for Greyhound and then was self-employed as an independent truck driver for thirty years. He was a member of the Moose Club, the Wesleyville American Legion Post, and the Siebenbuerger Club. He and his wife, Janice, spent winters in Sebring, FL. He enjoyed collecting coins, watching football, and European Soccer. He was an avid Steelers fan. Doug is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janice L. Kohler Schirra, one son, Kirk D. Schirra (Adrianne), of Aurora, OH, four grandchildren: Max, Sam, Katie, and Jack Schirra, two sisters; Faith Shultz (Jack), of Locust Grove, VA and Sandra "Sandy" Crimmons (Mike), of Upper St. Clair, PA, and one brother, John Schirra (Dee), of Upper St. Clair, PA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Weland Stetson. Friends may attend a funeral prayer service at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday at 12:00 noon. Private interment Laurel Hill Cemetery.
