Obituary of Pauline Schwemmer

Pauline M. Schwemmer Pauline M. Schwemmer, 82, a long time resident of Erie, died Wednesday evening, January 23, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Erie, January 14, 1931, daughter of Paul M. and Viola E. Timony Nellis. Educated in Erie, she attended Roosevelt Junior High School, whose classmates had many reunions. In 1949 she graduated from Academy High School and then attended the Behrend Center in the inaugural class. Pauline completed her college education at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where she majored in retailing. In New York, she was a comparison shopper for Abraham & Strauss Department Store. She married her husband Leonard at the Army Chapel at Ft. Lewis, Tacoma, Washington where their first son was born. In 1957 the family relocated to Erie. Pauline began working for the Millcreek Township School District serving as Secretary to the Superintendent. She enjoyed chaperoning student activities, particularly cross country skiing. She became an active runner, competing in the Mayor's 10K. She also enjoyed boating, golf, sewing, stained glass, dancing, Koinonia and hosting and socializing with friends. She and her husband wintered in N. Fort Myers for twenty years where they were active in the community. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church for 56 years serving as a Sunday School teacher and Church Secretary for part of that time. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Violet Hobbins and Doris Stanovich. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Leonard J. Schwemmer, two sons, Douglas Schwemmer of Morning View, KY and Paul Schwemmer of South Daytona, FL., one daughter, Lore Kimble and her husband, Dr. Greg Kimble of Hollidaysburg, PA. Four grandchildren: Megan, Michael, Lindsay and Jared, and many nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a service at 1 at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road. Rev. Brian Moran will officiate. Burial will be private in Erie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1603 West 32nd St., Erie, PA 13508, Alzheimer's Assn.
