Donald J. Boetger
Donald J. Boetger, age 78, of Erie, passed away at his residence lovingly surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 31, 2009 after a brief illness. He was born in Erie on October 9, 1931, son of the late Joseph and Anna Boetger.
Don was an active member of St. George R.C. Church where he served as a Lector, was a Sacristan at the 8 a.m. Mass and a member of the choir. He had also participated in the weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for 18 years. Don was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a 1949 graduate of Cathedral Prep and a graduate of Gannon College. Following that he received his C.P.A. Don was a 28 year employee at Electric Materials and served as their Treasurer prior to his retirement. Don also volunteered at the Emmaus Soup Kitchen; loved to play golf with his three sons; and enjoyed fishing, swimming and boating.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elaine Galanis Boetger; five children, Christine Gonnelli (Joe) of Moorestown, NJ, Leslie Jennings (Dale), Don Boetger (Kim), John Boetger (Janet) and Tim Boetger (friend, Brenda Shartle) all of Erie; a sister, Mary Ann Weschler (Bob) of Hemet , Ca.; a twin sister, Dona Lindsey (Merle) of Hixson, Tenn.; a brother, Gary Boetger (Donna) of Anthem, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, Katina, Erin, Katie, Laura, Kristin, Don, Tim, Brandon, J.C., Lauren, Eli, Jared and Alex; two great-grandchildren, Donovan and Levi; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th Street on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. George R.C. Church. Interment Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 East 11th St., Erie, PA 16503.
