Alan R. Shattuck
Alan R. Shattuck, age 66, a long-time resident of Belle Valley went to be with his Lord and Savior on Father's Day, June 21, 2009 at the Pittsburgh VA Hospital waiting for a liver transplant. He was the son of the late Paul N. and Margaret Shattuck. He was born on June 8, 1943 in Erie.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. His kind spirit and giving heart was key to many lasting friendships. Al's wife, Maudine H. Shattuck (Longstreet) enjoyed 42 years of marriage with her best friend. They were always seen together representing the true meaning of love and commitment. They have two children, one son, Alan J. Shattuck and his wife, Stephanie of Belle Valley and daughter, Natalie E. Luxon and her husband, William J. Jr. of Lake City. He was one of four brothers all made in God's unique design. They were not only brothers, but best friends and had many valuable times together. Paul I. Shattuck and his wife, Sandy are missionaries in the Dominican Republic, Donald W. Shattuck and his wife, Janet, of Girard, and Mark K. Shattuck of Erie.
He was a graduate of Tech Memorial High School in 1962 and attended Columbus College of Art and Design. He was then drafted into the Marines in 1964 and served in the Vietnam War in 1965-66. There he earned the rank of Corporal, along with the Vietnam Service, National Defense and Good Conduct metals. Al was given the Honorable Medical Discharge in November 1966. From this point he attended Cooper School of Art and Design in Cleveland, OH.
Al had many gifted talents, interests, and was knowledgeable in antiques, carpentry, gardening, fabrication, and restoration of unlimited things. With these God given abilities, he was a proud owner of Hearth to Home Antiques and Gifts for 16 years in Wesleyville and was a substitute teacher in the Erie School District. Then he worked through his illness at Tri-State Metal Cleaning, Ramar Nursery, and then grateful to be self-employed at home.
His four grandchildren: Shelby L. Shattuck, Chloe I Shattuck, Madeline C. Luxon, and William J. Luxon, III, called him "PaPa" and are broken hearted by his sudden passing.
This man was loved by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverly and Roger Klein, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews beyond what words can say. Each one brought him more happiness than they will ever know. He truly loved and admired them.
