Obituary of Lee Silverthorn JR

Lee Burton Silverthorn, Jr. Lee Burton Silverthorn, Jr., age 54, of Salem, VA, died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Friendship Manor Health and Rehab Center in Roanoke, VA, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Lee is survived by his parents, Lee B. and Mary Lou Waldinger Silverthorn; his brother, Mark Silverthorn and wife, Fran; his sister, Ann Silverthorn and husband, James DeDad; his nieces, Krista and Kasey DeDad, and nephew, Michael DeDad. Lee is also survived by his sons, Daniel Silverthorn and wife, Melinda, of Ridge Manor, FL, and James Silverthorn and wife, Dawn, of Spring Hill, FL, and two grandsons, Theodore and Evan Silverthorn. Close friends, Katrina Lange, Elliston, VA, and Martha Snyder, Vesuvius, VA, and many friends and associates in Salem and Roanoke, VA will miss Lee. Lee graduated from McDowell High School in 1971 and earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree from Virginia Western Community College in 1992. He was an electronics engineer and worked for General Electric Corporation for more than 35 years, beginning in Erie in 1972 and moving to the Roanoke plant in 1988. He was an avid equestrian and trained often with his horse, Flip. He played guitar and other instruments, and enjoyed composing and recording music with his home computer. He also enjoyed genealogy as a hobby, tracing his surname, Silverthorn(e) to its beginnings in Great Britain. Lee volunteered at and was a member of St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church in Roanoke, helping to maintain the church grounds for many years. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace RC Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2115 West 38th. St, Erie, PA 16508.
